Blended Metals Represent Love's Unity in David Weitzman's New Mokume Wedding Bands
Givataim, Israel (PRWEB) April 30, 2008 -- It's springtime again, and soon-to-be brides and grooms are making final plans for their walk down the aisle, including choosing the perfect wedding bands to symbolize their journey and spiritual connection. There's no place more fitting for spiritual jewelry than a wedding ceremony. Israeli jewelry designer David Weitzman of Ka Gold Jewelry (www.Ka-Gold-Jewelry.com) is releasing a new collection of hand-crafted wedding bands using the Japanese Mokume Gane technique of fusing two metals into one design, much as husband and wife will fuse their lives and love.
"Every Mokume wedding band is a unique and exclusive creation that is entirely hand-crafted," says Weitzman. "The use of the Mokume allows the designer to master the production of the material itself, and not just the usual process of working with prepared metals as in ordinary silver and gold crafting. The technique of unifying two metals into one integrated texture means that no two rings will be exactly alike."
The Mokume Gane metal crafting technique was developed in 17th century Japan, and was derived from the metal layering technique used in creating the "katana" Samurai's sword. The term "Mokume Gane" means metal that looks like knots in wood - an accurate description of the swirling designs created when the fused metal is rolled out. Common metals used with the Mokume Gane technique include silver, copper, Shakudu (combination of gold and copper), and Washiboishi (combination of silver and copper). Different metal fusions allow the designer to create different shades.
Weitzman offers a detailed photographic tour of the metal working process used to create Mokume wedding bands on his cosmic jewelry blog, allowing visitors a rare glimpse of the artist at work.
About David Weitzman and Ka Gold Jewelry
David Weitzman is the force behind Ka Gold Jewelry. He has dedicated himself in a search for sacred knowledge for many years. In 1998, Weitzman began making the Merkaba Pendant. The public response to that piece, telling him how much the pendant helped to change people's lives, encouraged him to continue creating these symbols of peace, and distributing them worldwide.
